Massimo Dutti Fall 2012

I love the casual elegance of the Massimo Dutti brand.  Here are my favourite outfits from the August 2012 lookbook.

Black, white and timber

I love the mix of black, white and timber in the dining room and kitchen of this Saint Tropez home.  The dining chairs and table are simply gorgeous and I like the simplicity of the Kartell FLY pendant light in this space.

Inspiration from Elle Decor Italia

While browsing the Elle Decor Italia site tonight, I stopped to stare at these three spaces.

1.  A simple black and white bathroom.  I love the contrast of the gorgeous black claw-foot bathtub and aged timber stool against the clean lines of the simple white subway tiles and sleek dark floor.

2.  A simple outdoor space with weathered decking, a concrete wall painted white and fun brightly coloured outdoor furniture from Corradi.

3.  A concrete kitchen.  I admit it is a little stark, but it fits right in with the man-cave atmosphere of this home.

New iPhone camera

Playing around with the camera on my new iPhone, I decided to take pics in the bedroom to compare to those taken recently with my old iPhone.  I new they would be better, but I didn't realise by how much.  So much more light and colour has been captured in these images taken at about the same time of day.

This is good news for when I'm too lazy to use a proper camera or out and about.  I also just figured out how to remove borders from the instagram filters, so no more annoying borders after this post.

Three fab finds in neon pink

Above images: Moschino Cheap & Chic via TheBeauteBuzz, Tatler magazine via CelebsPhotoshoots,
J Brand via SSense

1.  I love cursive words in neon lights such as this neon pink statement by Moschino Cheap & Chic at London Fashion Week.  I would love to have some neon words to hang on a wall in my home.

2.  I like the geometric pattern on her top, but what I really love about this image from Tatler magazine is her make-up: the blackest lashes and pale pink lipstick.

3.  I want these pink coated jeans from J Brand.  The colour is so vibrant and I imagine the coating would keep it that way for longer.

Time for an upgrade

I am picking up a brand new white iPhone 4S today.  It's finally time for an upgrade from my black iPhone 3S which has recently developed the habit of switching itself on and off for no apparent reason.  Now I just need to pick the perfect case.  Here are my top picks from Nordstrom...

...metallics by Marc Jacobs from Shopbop...

...and Kate Spade designs in animal print or graphic black and white.

I love the Kate Spade cases, they are definitely the most suited to my style, but I am rather concerned about the quality after reading the online reviews.  I may end up settling for one of the Marc Jacobs or Diane Von Furstenberg designs from Nordstrom.

A strange little habit

I meant to publish this post this morning, but I couldn't find the little silver cord to upload photos from my camera to my computer.

Above: Witchery cardigan, Oroton clutch and Sportsgirl ring

I realised this morning that there is a strange little habit in my morning routine.  After getting dressed, I run through my outfit in my head as if it were in a magazine spread.  For example, this morning's transcript would have read:

"Boots: Hugo Boss. Jeans: Karen Millen. Belt: Prada. Sweater: Cue. Cardigan: Witchery. Peacoat: Victoria's Secret. Necklace: Mimco. Bracelet: Oroton. Ring: Sportsgirl. Clutch: Oroton."

I always start with my shoes and work my way up, through the layers, then onto my jewellery and handbag.  Now that I've realised I do it, I think it's a little weird.  Maybe it's a symptom of reading too many fashion blogs.  Does anyone else do this or am I just a little insane?

My perfect red

One day in Paris I set out to find my perfect red lipstick, with Harry in tow.  We went straight to Chanel on Rue Cambon and a lovely sales assistant helped me choose my perfect shade: No. 22.  I was thrilled until she realised they didn't have it in stock.  I was finally brave enough to wear red lipstick, I had found my perfect shade and I couldn't have it.

Over the following weeks we searched for my perfect red as we travelled around Europe.  I tried Sydney when we returned home and a friend tried Tokyo, but the elusive No. 22 was nowhere to be found... until yesterday.  I was in Parramatta in Sydney's western suburbs.  I walked past Myer.  I was doubtful, but I decided to give it a try.  They had it in stock, my perfect red, No. 22, which turned out to be named 'Paris'.  I will be wearing it out for cocktails tomorrow night.

Why choose...

Why choose between cupcakes or rocky road with your morning coffee when you can have both.  Today's slightly indulgent morning tea: cupcakes from Cupcakes on Pitt, rocky road and a double shot cappuccino from Gloria Jean's.

I chose the strawberries & chocolate cupcake (top right in the image below): a chocolate cupcake with a hint of strawberry filled with fresh strawberries and strawberry butter cream.  It was delicious!

A simple black and white kitchen

I love this sleek kitchen in simple black and white. It's clean and uncluttered, but just interesting enough with the little display shelves.

Isn't that little stool almost too cute. It is part of this Scandi-inspired kids table setting, designed by the owner of the above kitchen for her label, GatherKids.

She uses it in her home as a coffee table, which I think is a great idea if you have kids.

A new gym bag

I have started going to a gym in an attempt to get fit.  I am naturally quite skinny which makes it a little too easy for me to be lazy, but I am not strong.  The last time I went to a gym regularly was over a year ago and I felt fantastic at the time.  Since then my fitness has deteriorated to the point where I regularly curse stairs and hills, so I have decided it's time to get fit again.

I have also decided it's time to buy a new gym bag.  This is my current Puma Runway bag.  I like the purple patent finish and the gold hardware, but I find it's size and shape to be a little impractical.

I thinks it's time for an upgrade to something smaller with more of a duffel bag shape.  I've done some web research and found these faves in light pink and grey.

A tiny apartment in Stockholm

Following on from yesterday's last post, here are a few shots of another home currently for sale by Fantastic Frank.  It is a strange little apartment with what appears to be the dining area right next to a bed, but I love the grey and white decor.

A mid-century modern mix in Stockholm

I love the mix of mid-century and modern furniture in the open plan living/dining space of this apartment for sale in Stockholm, Sweden.  Also, the herringbone flooring and the contrast of white tiles with black grout in the kitchen.

A photographer's home in Stockholm

Another day another stunning Swedish home tour.  This home belongs to photographer Jakob Nylund and was featured on his blog Form Conspiracy.  As always, I love the black, white, grey and timber colour combo so often found in Scandinavian homes.  Jakob has a couple of light fittings that are on my wish list and I love the spacing, simple frames and choice of prints in the gallery featuring one of Andy Warhol's posters from Moderna Museet.

Kate Spade clutches

I love each of these gorgeous clutches from Kate Spade.  Ostrich feathers, a pretty edition of a fave Jane Austen novel and a big black satin bow.  I want these in my wardrobe... and wouldn't they make a perfect excuse for many glamorous nights out.

Christmas in July

We celebrated Christmas in July yesterday. It is not something I have done before, but it was a lot of fun and a great excuse to eat way too much good food.

We had fairy lights (of course), muffins and champagne for breakfast, mulled wine, Austrian goulash with bread dumplings and christmas cake with custard.

Hotel Emile

Today I have another gorgeous Parisian hotel to share with you, located in the vibrant Marais district.  This was an area that we visited many times while in Paris, drawn by its mix of boutiques and great food (see Le Marais through my eyes on our first visit here).

Hotel Emile is decorated in graphic black and white (my favourite colour combo).  I love the contrasting patterns in the wallpaper, curtains and carpet, with everything else kept simple.
