My DIY to do list

Blogs are a great source for DIY inspiration.  Here are five DIY projects currently on my to do list.

1. Make an embroidery hoop chalkboard to hang in the kitchen for notes and reminders.

2. Paint something in neon pink.  I'm thinking of opting for my IKEA BEKVÄM step stool.

3. String fairy lights in the living room similar to this installation I saw at Centre Pompidou in Paris.

4. Paint a nice message on a front door mat to make our visitors smile.

5. Make washi tape jars for storing bits and bobs in my home office (just because they're super cute).

Playing dress-up

Speaking of polaroids, look what just popped up on Jess Pace's site.

It's our photo from the One Fine Day wedding fair.  Jess was awesome.  We're hoping to get her involved in our big day next year.

Polaroid Z2300 instant digital camera

It's obviously not one of the best digital cameras available in regards to picture quality or features (I don't think it even has zoom function), but Polaroid cameras are fun and this one comes in white.  I want one!

Dressing room shots

I love dressing room shots... a glimpse of sparkly fabrics, pretty shoes and a great source of inspiration for things like accessories storage ideas.  These shots are from a home I shared earlier this month, here.

Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs, as pictured above, is my favourite scent at the moment.  I also love the pretty gold cap covered with pink, white and yellow daisies.

Marchesa Resort 2013

Party dresses and evening gowns in pastel colours with gold accents, crystals and lots of tulle... the inspiration for this collection: garden parties, dappled sunlight and the romance of Summer. It's currently Winter in Australia, but if this collection is a preview of what's to come, I can't wait for Summer.

Words to live by

Back in March I featured an illustration by Inslee Haynes.  I love her work and today I am sharing a new print of a hand-painted quote available in her shop.  I think it's lovely and I would definitely buy it to hang in my dressing room if I had one.

Acrylic shower caddies

I have a lot of appreciation for designers who take something practical and everyday and turn it into something lovely.  These shower caddies from Daya Design are a perfect example; fabulous yet understated and still very practical.

Elaine Richardson, the founder of Daya Design, is an architect.  She lives in Sydney (yay, this is an Australian design) and finds that in both architecture and products, inspiration is drawn from “simplicity and light”.

The 'Zero' caddy comes in a single-shelf, double-shelf or 'Maxi' triple-shelf option.

If that's a little too simple for your tastes, there's also the more elaborate 'Baroque' caddy.

Ray-Ban folding aviators

I love sunglasses!  I have at least ten pairs and my Ray-Ban aviators are my current favourite.  I can't go out during the day without a pair of sunglasses, but sometimes the big cases are so annoying.  Ray-Ban has just released folding aviators with a little pouch that would fit much more easily into a small handbag.  I am intrigued enough to go try these out and see how they look with all those hinges.

Etsy finds: Studio Snowpuppe

Every now and again I come across an Etsy vendor that really impresses me.  Today that vendor is Studio Snowpuppe.  These handmade origami paper lampshades are simply gorgeous.

Currently coveting...

I would love to get my hands on a set of these limited edition all black Eames DSW side chairs.

What dreams are made of

This bathroom is what dreams are made of... my dreams anyway.  I dream of one day having a big open bathroom with a vintage style tub and timber floors.  The fireplace in this one is an added bonus.  Imagine sitting in that gorgeous tub with a fire going in the middle of Winter.

The vintage map headboard in this last image is lovely too.

Tulle fairy lights

I love this sweet DIY I found via Pinterest. A set of tulle fairy lights would be equally sweet in a glamorous dressing area or in a little girl's room.

And while we're on the subject of tulle, isn't this skirt gorgeous? It comes in adult size from Pretty in Pettiskirts.

Craving an organised space

Apparently I am even less organised than I thought.  Harry's niece's birthday party was today, not yesterday.  Luckily I realised before we started the 45+ minutes drive to their house.  One of my excuses reasons for being so unorganised is that I don't currently have a home office space while we're working on renovating our second downstairs room.  I currently use my laptop either on the lounge or at the dining table and the rest of my office supplies (including my calendar) are still packed away in boxes.

Eventually the room I just finished painting will be our home office, but for now our home office will look something like this.
I am planning on making an island out of two desks in the centre of the room (we'll need to work out how to handle all the electrical cords for now because the power points are not in the best location for this design).  It will also need to fit three bikes, with Harry's two road bikes likely to be stacked in tandem on one wall and my (much heavier) retro cruiser propped against another wall.

I'm not sure yet what storage is going to work in the room.  I can fit a bookshelf between the fireplace and the door to the understairs storage (the door at the bottom in the above image), but I will probably use something freestanding so that the room can easily be changed later.  I might prop a big moodboard up against one wall too.

Black and white balloons

It is Harry's niece's 4th birthday party today, so we're heading out to spend the day with his family.  I've been a little unorganised, so we first need to go shopping for a birthday present this morning.  I usually buy her a pretty dress and something little to go with it, like jewellery or something for her bedroom.  Today, I think I might buy her some pretty balloons too.  Seriously, balloons are so much fun!

How cute is that little girl with her giant bunch of black and white balloons.  I would buy Harry's niece that gorgeous little Winter outfit too.  Love the chevron tights! The above image is from a rebranding campaign by Claridge's Hotel in London in 2010.  Just because the shots are so cute, here are a couple more.

Black and white bathrooms

I love the luxe bathrooms in this home, especially the guest bathroom with its black and white striped wallpaper, chevron timber flooring, white painted brick walls and gorgeous metal basin. Also, the black ornate chandelier in the main bathroom and the repetition of stripes used in rugs and wall panels throughout the home.

Fashion inspiration from 1939

While browsing fashion images in the New York Public Library's online digital gallery, I found this gorgeous coat which I had to share.  The design is in black wool with black velvet buttons and a black silk scarf.  It is from 1939, but I would definitely still wear this coat today.  It is a perfect example of elegant and timeless fashion.

On my wishlist: Paris vs New York

I've seen the book, but I didn't know until I was browsing the Anthropologie site today that Paris vs New York also came in a sweet postcard set.

I think a selection of these framed would make a fun and colourful gallery.

A ribbon in her hair

It's been a long time since I've worn a ribbon in my hair, but these images make me think it might be time to start doing so again.

A glamorous Paris apartment

The glamorous renovation of this tiny apartment in Paris is the work of London designer Hubert Zandberg.  I love the use of black and white and those tiles in the bathroom, but my favourite feature is the curtain that conceals the kitchen from the living room when it's not in use.
